Hypersaline chemical wasterwater is one of the refractory wastewater because of their high salt concentration and less bioavailability character. Food, textile, dye, medical, chemical and petroleum industries produce many tons of hypersaline wastewater, and sometimes the salt concentration will arrive at 15~20%.

Traditional biochemical treatments have advantage in dealing with the wastewater when the salt concentration is low. But wasterwater with the NaCl concentration higher than 3%, would restrain the growth and the degradation capability of the indigenous bacteria. Salt-tolerant bacteria provide possibility to treat the hypersaline wastewater by biochemical treatment. The investment of this technique is equal to traditional bio-treatment.
