          Environmental Engineering Institute. Ltd., Dalian University of Technology (EEI, DUT) is a professional research institute under direct leadership of DUT. EEI focuses on research of environmental science and engineering technology, project design and construction. It has been engaging in teaching and researching of environmental science since 1979. The environmental engineering research group was founded in 1980. In 1985, Environmental Engineering Institute was founded. There are now more than 60 professional technology personnel, more than 25% of them have doctorate degree. EEI possesses Certificate of environment impact assessment ( I class ), issued by State Environmental Protection ministry of P. R. China, Certificate of professional design of environmental project (I class) issued by Ministry of Construction of P. R. China, and III Class Construction Enterprise Qualification of Main Contractor for Environmental Engineering Construction (Project) issued by Liaoning Construction Office. It has completed more than 200 environment impact assessment projects, more than 150 pollution treatment projects design, dozens of engineering construction. EEI possesses more than 20 patents and 8 key environmental engineering technologies and equipments. In recent years, more than 50 pollution treatment technologies and 30 environmental science research projects were developed. EEI has become a well-known professional research organization in China.


          Pollution control and treatment technology is the priority of EEI. Its research focuses on application of Biological Engineering and Chemical Engineering in wastewater treatment and resource recovery. Innovating traditional wastewater treatment process and equipment, developing new processes and equipments with small occupying area, high efficiency, energy saving and low cost are the interests of EEI. It has several patents for the treatment of high-concentration non-degradable organic wastewater. Combined Biological Oxidation Tower (CBOT), Vertical Turbulent Biological Reactor (VTBR), Pulse Current Micro-electrolysis (ME) have been developed and applied in many aspects including industrial wastewaters from petrochemical, oil refinery, textile and dye industry, coal gas producing factory, paper making and fermentation, municipal and domestic wastewater.


          For the control of air pollution, EEI focuses on flue gas desulfurization and treatment of organic waste gas. Its main technology includes Fuel Gas Desulphurization by Resource Reclamation Technology, Spray Dry Adsorption and Wet Desulfurization, Activated Carbon Fiber Adsorption of CS2 and organic waste gases.


         For the treatment of solid waste, waste liquid and resource recovery, EEI focuses on municipal garbage and non-toxic industrial garbage landfill technology, treatment and utilization of waste acids and waste residue of chemical industry. It has completed Dalian Municipal Waste Treatment Project (financed by World Bank), Waste Solid Landfill Project of Dalian West Pacific Petrochemical Co. Ltd. etc.


         Environment effects evaluation and systems engineering is another advantage of EEI. It started its evaluation work even before Environmental Protection Agency’s certificate system. It is also one of the first two organizations that obtained First Class certificate issued by Ministry of Education, China. It has completed more than 200 environment impact assessment projects in recent years.


         The services of EEI include research and development of environmental engineering technology, design and construction of environmental engineering project, design, production, installation and regulation of environmental engineering equipment, technology consulting & personnel cultivation, environment effect evaluation, and environmental sample analysis etc.
